Radical extremist Green politician (25) pushes asylum critic (80) down the stairs
A dramatic incident occurred in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in which the police are investigating charges of assault against Katharina Horn, the 25-year-old state spokesperson and co-chairwoman of the Greens in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After an emotional special session of the town council in Greifswald last Wednesday, the politician allegedly pushed an 80-year-old man off the town hall steps. The man fell down several steps. Initially, only the Nordkurier reported on the incident.
It is particularly explosive that the aggrieved party is Peter Gomoll, who was only appointed honorary chairman of the “Initiative Bürgerentscheid Greifswald” (IBG) on Tuesday. The Greens in Greifswald regard this campaign group as one of their political opponents, who criticize the housing of refugees in container villages.
According to the Nordkurier newspaper, 80-year-old Gomoll had to be treated in an ambulance after the fall. According to the police, however, there were no obvious injuries. After an examination by the paramedics, Gomoll was released from medical care. The police confirmed a criminal complaint and are now investigating the incident.
Horn denies any intention
Horn denied the allegations to the Nordkurier newspaper. According to her, a group of people had gathered in front of the town hall and obstructed the way. “When we tried to get around the group, an elderly man put out his elbows and tried to block our way. In the confusion, the man stumbled. I couldn’t hold him any longer,” said the 25-year-old.
Katharina Horn and the Green Party regularly criticize the “Greifswald Citizens’ Initiative”. “In its statements, it adopts formulations and fighting terms of right-wing extremism. This initiative has attracted attention in the past and also yesterday for its anti-democratic behavior and contact with right-wing extremists,” they say, although it is important to note that the Greens consider anything that goes against their own world view to be right-wing extremist.
In a press release, the IBG, which was founded before a citizens’ decision on the accommodation of migrants in Greifswald, stated that this was not a simple assault, but an inhumane, reckless attack or perhaps even a politically motivated crime. During the special session, Eva Nehmzow, the spokesperson for the IBG, was expelled from the chamber by the vice president of the Bürgerschaft, Kira Wisnewski (Greens), for allegedly interrupting with heckling. It is reported that both Nehmzow and Gomoll, who had fallen, were in the crowd in front of the town hall.
The upcoming election of a deputy mayor was decided during the special meeting of the citizens’ assembly. This election will take place in June, three days before the upcoming municipal elections. In this situation, the Greens, SPD and Left Party would still have a majority. They cast their vote in favor of a new election. During an hour-long citizens’ question and answer session, there were several exchanges and verbal disputes, forcing Vice-President Wisniewski to expel all guests from the room, including Nemzhow and Gomoll. Representatives of the CDU, AfD, FDP and individual members of parliament also joined in. 2000 people protested in the market square against right-wing politics and racism during the parliamentary session.
